Language of the Month

There are over 30 different languages spoken by families at Priory School! To promote and celebrate the diversity of our school community, we celebrate ‘language of the month’.

It is rewarding to be able to give the opportunity to children to demonstrate the language skills they bring to school. We have so many families that speak an additional language and from this, we are able to ask children in school to help record audios.

Each month, staff and children learn some phrases in a different language and use these around the school. Teachers are able to play the audios in class for all children to learn to say please and thank you, say a greeting, learn how to answer the register and even order lunch!

We learn a little about the country/countries of the official language with links to songs to help learn basic phrases, numbers 1–10 and colours too! A number of famous musicians are also introduced, along with links to different types of music that celebrate culture and tradition.

Sometimes, languages are celebrated during a month when there is a festival or national day of significance.

Have fun discovering new words and phrases and learning about our languages from around the world with your child/ren!
